Hello guys, I know that I have not posted a blog lately because I am busy with my college work and assignments, but soon I am going to post it.

So today I am going to share a quote that I liked and thought of sharing with you people:

Can people have the right to control others?

What would your reaction be if someone tries to control your life? You would try to go against them, but what if that someone is stronger or has authority and you can’t go against them?

If you can’t go against then you try to escape from them, as our mind is built in such a way that we don’t want anyone else to control our lives, and the thinking is correct as every person should live their lives of their own.

Now after seeing the word “escape” you would have thought about why she wrote that word, as people in today’s generation are not avoiding but fighting for justice.

Recently I read the news, where I found Afghans helpless. They are not able to do anything, as their lives are being controlled by the Taliban.

Afghanistan fell into turmoil after the Taliban seized power in the country by capturing city by city in just 10 days. Since the fall of Kabul over the weekend, scenes of chaos have unfolded as thousands tried to flee, fearing a return to the brutal regime of the Taliban that ended 20 years ago.

After they also took over the military control, people are scared and trying their best ways to escape and save their lives.

People in urgency try to cling to the flight as they are not finding any seats inside and eventually fall off.

People don’t want to live their lives under the influence of someone else as they do not feel secure so they try their best to get out of the situation.

Not only them but we also have the same perception.

Now some people have the right to control us :

  • Family members: If they stop you from doing something, you should think of it as they tell you for your good, and then if you still think what you are doing is correct, you should try to convince your parents, but not think that they are trying to control your lives.
  • Teachers: They teach you good values but they never try to control you.

People cannot have authority over others and each individual has their freedom, that’s what our government says what do you think guys let me know your opinion in the comment section.

Covid symptom: Bad handwriting

When I had college, I used to focus on my handwriting as I knew that nice handwriting is the best way to impress teachers, so while writing exams I tried my best to keep my handwriting as neat as possible.

But when the lockdown started, due to online classes my habit of writing was negligible. The amount of time I used to spend writing notes, records during college started decreasing.

I am a science student and for practical exams, we have to write on paper even if it’s an online exam. I noticed a change in my handwriting during exam time. Now when I start writing anything, I am shocked by seeing the change which took place.

This happened not only to me but to many of my friends.

When I was thinking of it these are few things that I came across;

1)Writing everyday:

Writing is the best way to talk without being interrupted.

I am preparing for my exams which are helping me write every day, and also not lose my grip on writing.

Write at least 1 page every day of whatever topic you want, or if you’re too lazy to write 1 page at least try writing half-page as this will help.

2)Don’t rush

While writing doesn’t rush, as it will not improve your writing but it’ll rather spoil it. Whenever you are free you can make this your busy bee task.

3)Change won’t happen suddenly

Change won’t happen in one day it’ll take time. As you have not written for a long time, so it’ll take time to get back your neat handwriting, so till then have patience.

This is a very short blog but I have wanted to write about this for a long time. I hope students can relate to this and if yes do comment down your incidents that made you feel so.

Generation gap

The most common dialogue which I tell my mom is “Generation gap mom you have to adapt” whenever my thoughts, opinions do not match hers.

One day, I sat beside my mom and told her that I want to dye my hair brown, for which her sudden reaction was, no why do you want to dye your hair natural color is looking nice on you.

Not only this there are several other incidents which happened to me like :

1)Wearing a short dress:

This happened to me maybe twice or thrice when I wore a short dress and went in front of her, she became an overprotective mom and told me to change the dress immediately as it was too short.

2)Shopping for clothes:

When I go shopping with my mom for clothes, she selects clothes which I don’t like and vice versa, and there is a huge argument which happens between us for finalizing of clothes.

3)Excess use of digital media:

If I use digital media in excess due to some work, there comes a dialogue from my mom “stop using your mobile, you have used enough till now”.

These can be considered as being protective but we label it as the Generation gap.

I know that not only me but you also could relate to me.

  • Baby Boomers: born 1946 to 1964.
  • Generation Jones: born 1955 to 1965.
  • Generation X: born 1965 to 1980.
  • Xennials: born 1977 to 1983.
  • Millennials: born 1981 to 1996.
  • Generation Z: born in 1997 or after.
  • Generation Alpha: born 2010 or after

From the above graph, we can see that people have come from different generations therefore, they have different mindsets and views and it may take time to change or it may not change at all.

How to reduce the generation gap:

This is the question that I always had how will I make my mom adapt to the latest trend?

We always think that our parents are too old-fashioned and cannot change, therefore we never try to explain them and stop the conversation by one common dialogue, you won’t understand leave it.

But if we try to explain them, and they try to listen to you without arguing, then we can reduce the generation gap. Not only the youth here but parents should also understand and move along with the latest trend.

It’s ok to be protective, but instead of stopping if elders try to calmly talk to them: be careful (if they stay out for a long time), it may harm your eyes so try to reduce the usage of phone(excess use of digital media), but if they stop them then we’ll (youth) start arguing and never listen.

also if we set out our conversations and explanations, then we can have no issues with them.

The generation gap arises due to differences in the perceptions between the people. If we change the perception then we can reduce the bridge formed.

Try doing this and observe the changes, and also pin down some of the incidents that took place with you due to the generation gap would love to know about it.

Anger Management

When I was a child I used to get angry very often for very silly reasons like:

1)Not getting my favorite food

2)For being stopped from playing as I used to skip my homework(in total for not getting what I want)

and I used to let out my anger on my mother and sister.

This ruined my entire mood therefore I tried something which helped me control my anger.

Here are the few tips that I didn’t surf from net and are solely experienced by me which I would love to share with you.

1)WHEN YOU ARE IN A HURRY:

I have observed this many times with myself and also with others that when we are in a hurry, and things don’t usually happen in our favor, we get angry (or) irritated, expecting things will change after that but everyone knows the result will be the same.

Therefore, being calm and composed even in rigorous situations helps our mind stay focused and we can handle things easily.

2)IS IT NECESSARY TO GET ANGRY:

When someone makes me angry/I get angry I think: is it necessary to get angry or we can handle the situation in control.

If it is a very small reason and you feel it doesn’t require your energy and time pass it, but if you think there is a reason then of course you can’t stop yourself.

eg:

  • Employee-boss relation: Boss has to be angry sometimes and it’s ok. Their action doesn’t always require your reaction. Remember that.
  • Small fights with friends, sister handle calmly don’t get angry as it may harm your health and also spoil your relationship with the other person.

3)Ignore if someone tries to make you angry

This may seem a bit funny but if you try it, trust me you will feel a lot of difference.

When a person tries to make you angry simply ignore that person, as getting angry at him will have no benefit for him but will only harm you so it is better to ignore him.

Ignoring a person may be harmful sometimes as the other person may get more frustrated so be careful with that.

  • If a person is someone from your family member, close to you then calmly tell them that their way of behavior affects you when they are bit relaxed and that it’s not good for their health as well.
  • If a person is a stranger or it is a one-time incident it is better to ignore and move on.

The above pointers have 2 benefits:

  • Ignoring the person or dealing with the person calmly makes the other person also calm, as he/she will think that his/her anger is having no impact on you.
  • Helps you stay calm/peaceful throughout the day.

4)THINK OF GOD OR DO MEDITATION

This was done by me when I just started to control my anger. Whenever I used to get angry I used to think of god and do meditation to make myself calm.

DRAWBACKS OF CONTROLLING ANGER:

I am not telling you to control anger as I also get angry and it’s very natural.

Controlling anger can lead to severe diseases like heart attack, bronchitis and also there is a saying:

You cannot be god all the time.

But excess anger can be damaging so don’t stop or don’t exceed just be in the limits.

Anger is an emotion just like all other emotions but it does have a negative impact if not kept to its limit.

STORYTIME#2: ONE DAY WITHOUT DIGITAL MEDIA

In the previous blog I wrote about digital media where I told that we have to use it for less time, but saying that I am the one always being stuck with the phone or laptop for the blog purpose, and never take a break due to this my usage of the phone is high(5-6 hours a day).

So I took a break for a day where I dint use any digital media, my sister also gave me a company.

2nd JULY 2021

This was the day when we started our day without digital media.

There were many activities which I and my sister planned the day before which we could do to pass the day like:

1)PLAYING GAMES

  • CARDS
  • PACHISI

2)READING BOOKS

3)HELPING MOM WITH COOKING

As planned we helped mom during lunch and played games like pachisi which was very fun.

For those who don’t know about pachisi, it is an Indian game that dates long back to the pages of mythology similar to Ludo.

That day was the one where offline games won over the online games,

The happiness of ours won over the happiness we get in watching YouTube videos,

The talk with our family won over the WhatsApp and Instagram chat.

Trust me it was not very easy at times I was tired of all this and thought of quitting it but then I thought am I so addicted and so confidence built up in me and I continued my day without digital devices.

Slowly the time flew by and it became 8:30 in the night, then we finally took our phone, and before sleeping when I saw the total time used for the whole day (at 11:00) it was 1hr 25 min only. I was shocked, the person who uses her phone for 5-6 hours a day only used it for 1hr 25 min isn’t it shocking?

The internet has probably been man’s greatest invention, which created a virtual world that can be credited as a huge human accomplishment.

There have been several advancements in digital media: both hardware and software.

No one can deny the fact that the impact of digital media is quite noticeable in our society, and you sure know it has both positive and negative effects.

Digital media enhances the learning process.

It has played important role in the field of education. In this Pandemic time I have learned many new courses, it helped us to remain connected with our loved ones virtually, and online learning and classes when school and colleges were closed.

2) ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE

Because of the internet, people can express their experience or knowledge over the world.

Social media platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter help us reach more people and platforms like LinkedIn also helps us build more networks and create new connections.

It helps us to raise voices against social issues, and bloggers can develop highly engaged readers by promoting their blogs on a social media platform like us. Don’t you think so?

3)DIGITAL BUSINESS

Digital business has been in demand in the present world. If you want to sell something, you can sell it through digitally. Especially at this pandemic, it has become a boom. So many business entrepreneurs have started marketing themselves digitally and have become so well known.

If you want to market your product, you can market it too using digital media by leveraging Digital Marketing strategies like social media marketing, and email marketing, etc.

4)REAL-TIME INFORMATION

It also helps us to gather real-time information about what is happening in the world.

If you are a die heart fan of cricket, then you can catch the live updates on your phone or record the match and watch it later on the device.

5)DECREASE IN PRINT MEDIA

Newspapers are a source of knowing the latest information about what is going on in the world.

Traditionally Newspapers were in a lot more demand, but now there is a question which is arising “Is newspaper necessary?”

This is because whatever we get in the newspaper, we see in a news channel, or get the latest post on a smartphone then why read the newspaper?

NEGATIVE IMPACTS OF DIGITAL MEDIA

1)ADDICTION

Increasingly, addiction to mobile devices, addiction to social networking sites, such as Facebook, Instagram are prevalent in our society. Excessive usage of these leads to withdrawal symptoms such as feeling anger, tension, and depression when Internet access is not available. This makes individuals dependent on the internet.

We all have heard how playing games on a computer or a gaming console harms our eyesight or does nothing to produce any physical work.

2)LIFESTYLE AFFECTS COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT

The new generation gets in touch with internet access early in their development, which has a significant effect on cognitive development if used in excess.

If we use gadgets in excess, then we can have a significant effect on our health like the inability to remember things, having diminished ability to read, loss of analytical thinking, and slow information processing.

3)INFORMATION OVERLOAD

Google has a lot of information stored in it. So when we want to search for a particular topic, it becomes difficult for a reader to choose, when there is a variety of information on the same topic. It leads to confusion rather than giving clarity.

4)LACK OF SOCIAL SKILLS AND IMPATIENCE ARISING IN PEOPLE

The usage of digital media has been in increasing, but due to excess usage of social media people are lacking social skills. People get angry and impatient very easily, at very small things due to the excess usage of gadgets.

Social media is useful in many ways but it is also harmful, therefore we have to draw a line for how much time to use social media and that is very important.

I have a great idea. I follow this and it is of great help. Now in our smartphones, we also have a feature where we can set up phone usage time for the day. After that limit, you will get a reminder. So you know that it’s time for you to shut your phone and do something else. Try this, it does work.

AWARENESS ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH

WHAT IS MENTAL HEALTH:

A mental illness is nothing but a physical illness of the brain that causes disturbances in the way we think, behavior, energy, or emotion which makes it difficult to cope with the ordinary demands of day-to-day life.

Although the general perception about mental illness has improved, the stigma about mental illness is still the same. This may be due to the influence of media and those people who tend to spread negative opinions about mental illness.

This affects the mindset of the people who try to seek treatment for mental illness. And yes it’s Ok. Seeking health about the physical illness is similar to getting treatment for mental illness. One should go seek help because our mind is equally important as our body.

Treating the patient as an individual but not as a patient suffering from illness can make the biggest difference. As one suffers from physical health problems, mental health is also our mind which is also part of our life and our existence. So it is fine and makes them comfortable by being normal as you were.

ANXIETY/ DEPRESSION CASES:

In this pandemic, people are experiencing anxiety and depression disorder as many have lost their jobs and staying at home doing nothing.

Kids are having online classes and due to a lack of understanding, they are getting low marks in the exam which is leading them to depression.

Sitting idle and doing nothing at home which would have been experienced by many, also leads to anxiety and depression issues. Therefore try to engage yourself by doing something productive like reading (not a newspaper but something productive)doing some courses etc.

If you have any depression/ anxiety issues discuss them with your close ones like your family, friends whom you feel you can share with. Never keep it within yourself as it will lead to overthinking. Discussing it with your close ones will resolve the problem and make you stress-free and happy. Don’t worry, it’s very normal to think differently. There are no ground rules for how you have to think.

TIME MANAGEMENT

Time management is the process of planning and controlling how much time to spend on specific activities. Good time management enables an individual to complete more in a shorter period with low stress and leads to success.

I inculcated the habit of making a to-do list recently and it worked very well for me. The tasks which I used to postpone before, or forgot and accumulated till the end putting an allotment on it, now I am pushing myself and doing it.

Tips on time management:

1)SET GOALS CORRECTLY:

  • Set Specific Goals-Your goal must be clear and well-defined.
  • Set Measurable Goals-Include precise amounts, dates, and so on in your goals so you can measure your degree of success. Try rating yourself every day on how much you feel you have progressed on your goal.
  • Set Attainable Goals-Make sure that it’s realistic and achievable.
  • Set Relevant Goals-Make sure your goals are relevant and required to be achieved.
  • Set Time-Bound Goals-Set a timeline and consider it as a deadline. That will make you more focused and work towards it actively. e.g. Walk 30 minutes every day etc.

2)PRIORITIZE WISELY:

  • Start with the list
  • Determine the top priority-A priority if not completed today will lead to a significant consequence.
  • Rank others based on this category.
  • Repeat the process each day.

3)SET A TIME LIMIT:

Set a time limit for every task you’re planning to do. When you do so you are making yourself ready for finishing the task at the given ample of time.

You can observe some pros when you follow these:

PROS:

It can help you enhance your productivity by helping you to stay focused and committed to the critical tasks at hand. 

Setting a timer also helps with blocking out distractions and allows you to get more done in less time.

CONS:

Don’t let the time allotted expand and fill your schedule. Set a specific time limit for each task and get to work.

4)TAKE BREAKS BETWEEN TASKS:

Continuous work is not good for health. If we won’t take a break we will feel tired till the end of the day. Make sure you give breathing space(buffer) between tasks and it’s not airtight.

Taking breaks between tasks helps us feel more:

  • Healthier/fresh
  • Productive
  • Creative

5)ORGANIZE YOURSELF:

If you organize yourself, you plan your work and activities in an ordered, efficient way.

“Organize your life around your dreams, and watch them come true.”

6)REMOVE NON ESSENTIAL TASKS:

It is important to remove excess activities that add no value to your life.

Determine what is significant and deserves your time.

Removal of excess /unnecessary tasks frees up more time.

7)PLAN AHEAD

Plan your tasks and follow them every day.

It is not an overnight thing that you can achieve. This takes a lot of consistency and practice. You might make few mistakes initially while your planning, you may deviate, can come across unforeseen interruptions but don’t stress out, you will eventually learn and become much better.

Multitasking is ‘NOTHING’

Can you eat and talk at the same time? No right, in a similar way doing multiple things at the same time is impossible.

According to a study, it is said that doing multitasking either slows down the ongoing tasks or you’re going to start making mistakes.

I watch Tv and at the same time eat food which messes up everything. The plan of my day messes up. I cater 30 minutes for food according to my To-Do list which usually goes up to 1 hour. Doing two things at the same time is impossible and takes a lot of time than expected.

Not only this there are many cases where I tried doing multitasking but it never worked.

  • Watching mobile and tv at the same time: This will be common in every home. People on the Tv and watch mobile and when someone asks they say they are doing multitasking. But if you would have observed yourself during that period you would have been completely into your mobile and ignored tv or vise versa.

  • Checking your phone and email while doing other tasks: This is not called multitasking this is called distracting yourself from the important work.

Multitasking has a severe effect on the brain:

1)Impacts your short-term memory: While multitasking you have to focus on more than one task which can severely affect the brain.

2)Depression, anxiety, and decrease productivity:

Trying to multitask produces changes in the brain that can cause depression, anxiety and decrease productivity. In short, multitasking is bad for your overall mental health.

3)Causes more mistakes :

Multiple studies have found that multitasking causes people a long time to do tasks and can even have the same negative impact as losing a night’s sleep.

Some researchers suggest that multitasking can reduce productivity by as much as 40%.

Well, there is a very famous saying “When you talk to someone and do one more thing same time, you indirectly are giving that person less importance”.

When you give some time to think about the quote, it is so true right.

Let me share with you what I think. I have read a lot of books on this concept and there is one thing that many people are not aware of.

Do you know there is nothing called multi-tasking?

You either have “Switch task” or “Background Task”.

So let me just brief you on the same.

Switch tasking as we all know is when our attention is on different tasks that are not directly related to the same outcome. Our brain does not do so well switch tasking and there is a real cost to it. We always enjoy work in a state of flow because it no longer feels like work. This practice slows down a lot and kills productivity also.

Background tasking is when something automatically occurs in the background of an activity. This gets the maximum productivity. Let me give you an example of starting a load of laundry while you answer Email. Since the laundry doesn’t require your attention and is happening in the background.

DURING WORKPLACE:

In the present generation even though we try to do single-task but some situations force us to do multitasking. Let us see few situations where we don’t realize and do multitasking:

1)Reading emails and On a call with Colleague.

2)Listening to the training and taking descriptive notes.

You can try reducing this at your workplace by following these few tips.

Even though we can’t completely erode multitasking we can reduce this by putting some limitations:

1)Make a to-do list:

Create a daily schedule by putting a non-negotiable time for your work.

It can be as short as 20 min to as long as 70 min. By doing so you are putting a finish line to your task.

2)Schedule multiple breaks

Avoiding multitasking doesn’t mean avoiding breaks.

You need to have a break in the middle so that you can refresh yourself and refocus.

3)Make it clear that you won’t be distracted

No matter what make sure to stay focused on your work.

Keep yourself away from mobiles until you finish your deadline.

4)Designing a peaceful environment

Creating a peaceful work environment is beneficial to stay away from all the distractions beside you.

5)Block distracting websites-

While you are seriously focusing on your work there may be notifications popping out from websites that may be distracting. Therefore before starting work make sure to block all the notifications from the distracting websites which can increase your work time.

The advantage of single tasking over multiple tasking:

1)Helps you focus more

2)Takes less time

3)Reduces stress

4)Makes you more creative

5)Be more productive

As we’ve seen multitasking affects our brain and kills our productivity without even knowing it. If still not convinced let’s try a small activity.

Take a notebook and pen and write this:

  • S W I T C H T A S K I N G I S A T H I E F
  • 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20

For the first time write the complete line at once. Like the first line “Switch tasking is a thief” and the second line i.e. numbers from 1 to 20

Again repeat the same but now first write one letter on top and corresponding to one letter in the bottom. For example, write the “S” on the top line and then “1” on the bottom, “W” and “2”, “I” and “3” etc.

Check the time for both the activity and you will understand how multitasking just kills our time and decreases our productivity.

Therefore let’s try to minimize multitasking as much as we can to live a happier life.
