A mental illness is nothing but a physical illness of the brain that causes disturbances in the way we think, behavior, energy, or emotion which makes it difficult to cope with the ordinary demands of day-to-day life.

WHAT CAN WE DO TO HELP OR OVERCOME THE PERCEPTION OF MENTAL ILLNESS:
Although the general perception about mental illness has improved, the stigma about mental illness is still the same. This may be due to the influence of media and those people who tend to spread negative opinions about mental illness.
This affects the mindset of the people who try to seek treatment for mental illness. And yes it’s Ok. Seeking health about the physical illness is similar to getting treatment for mental illness. One should go seek help because our mind is equally important as our body.

If we make them aware of mental illness the advantages of treatment then people will surely follow.
2)TREATING THEM AS INDIVIDUAL AND NOT AS PATIENT
Treating the patient as an individual but not as a patient suffering from illness can make the biggest difference. As one suffers from physical health problems, mental health is also our mind which is also part of our life and our existence. So it is fine and makes them comfortable by being normal as you were.
ANXIETY/ DEPRESSION CASES:
In this pandemic, people are experiencing anxiety and depression disorder as many have lost their jobs and staying at home doing nothing.
Kids are having online classes and due to a lack of understanding, they are getting low marks in the exam which is leading them to depression.
Sitting idle and doing nothing at home which would have been experienced by many, also leads to anxiety and depression issues. Therefore try to engage yourself by doing something productive like reading (not a newspaper but something productive)doing some courses etc.
If you have any depression/ anxiety issues discuss them with your close ones like your family, friends whom you feel you can share with. Never keep it within yourself as it will lead to overthinking. Discussing it with your close ones will resolve the problem and make you stress-free and happy. Don’t worry, it’s very normal to think differently. There are no ground rules for how you have to think.
